Bitcoin Developers Question $BOS Token’s Role: Cardano Founder Joins In

  • Cardano’s founder doubts the need for a $BOS token in BitcoinOS.
  • Sovryn claims $BOS powers a revolutionary computing system for BTC.
  • BitcoinOS enables blockchain interoperability without intermediaries.

A debate erupted over the requirement of the BOS token as the gas token for BitcoinOS amid Sovryn’s presale announcement. Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson and other community members have raised questions about Sovryn’s launch of the BOS token, the DeFi platform backing BitcoinOS, a ZK-proof roll-up on the BTC mainnet. Announced as the gas token, the BOS presale has sparked debate.

A user raised concerns, stating, “Just by virtue of having a token, when BTC is supposed to be the medium of transfer, makes me extremely skeptical now.” In response, Hoskinson expressed surprise over the decision to issue a token for BitcoinOS. “I was unaware of the need or desire to issue a token for BOS. It doesn’t require a token. BTC can act as the fuel to compensate for the actions required for the network,” he remarked.

Hoskinson suggested the need for further clarity on the matter, stating, “Maybe I’m missing something in their design, and hopefully we’ll be able to understand more in the coming weeks.” For context, Sovryn’s announcement aims to position BitcoinOS as a groundbreaking development, claiming it allows BTC to verify activity on other blockchains without intermediaries.

Sovryn’s BitcoinOS: A Critical Analysis of Its Claims and Potential

This venture, marked by the first verified zero-knowledge (ZK) proof on BTC, was lauded as a transformative milestone for Bitcoin and the broader crypto ecosystem. Now the firm is seeking to present BOS as the token enabling this decentralized computing and revolutionizing Bitcoin’s connectivity and utility.

However, critics argue that BTC is sufficient to facilitate the operating system’s functionality, questioning whether BOS adds genuine utility or merely complicates the system. The skepticism highlights broader concerns within the crypto community about the proliferation of tokens in projects where the native asset could suffice.

If it quacks like a duck…So far none of their reasoning seems to hold up, esp the “can’t use BTC or ADA to secure the bridge” claim. Would imagine it’s just their VC overlord’s doings… At least the idea is out there and someone can realize its true potential perhaps
